The higher education system in Republic of Moldova is structured on 3 levels (Bologna Process): 1st cycle (licenţă) corresponding to Bachelor’s degree, 2nd cycle corresponding to Master’s degree and, 3rd cycle (doctorate) corresponding to the PhD degree. Higher education of Republic of Moldova is administered by the Ministry of Education (ME).
The academic year starts on 1st of September and lasts up to the end June, with holiday breaks in January and April. Each academic year is divided into two semesters. Each semester consists of 15 full weeks of classes, followed by the examination session.
The grading scale runs from 1 to 10 and the marks have the following meanings: 1-4 fail, 5-6 sufficient, 7 satisfactory, 8 good, 9 very good, 10 excellent. Recommended ECTS grades:
The total number of ECTS credits for one semester is 30 (thirty) and for one academic year is 60 (sixty).
